Meet Jerald L. Tillman

Jerald L. Tillman, an entrepreneur at heart, is the Agency Owner of JL Tillman Insurance Agency LLC, an independent agency in Columbus, Ohio. He is also Founder of the National African American Insurance Association(HYPERLINK "http://www.naaia.org"www.naaia.org). Lastly, Publisher/CEO SuccessGuide (published from 1991 to 2018 in multiple cities).


Jerald graduated in 1974 with a B.S. General Business from Miami University, Oxford, Ohio. He was also a strong safety on the 1973 Hall of Fame football team that beat the University of Florida in the Tangerine Bowl. By the way, back then, there was only 10 Bowl games!


Jerald entered the insurance business right after college in 1974 and quickly noticed the lack of diversity in the industry. He decided to take on the challenge to do whatever was necessary to diversify it by matching top talent with needs of major corporations.  In 1997, he founded the National African Insurance Association (NAAIA), a support group and networking resource for African American insurance professionals and agency owners nationwide.  

 

Jerald has won numerous awards and recognitions for his professional and community involvement. Most recent 2025 Business Insurance Alonzo Herndon Award presented to Mr. Tillman in Chicago, October 1, 2025.
